Oh, the hunt for light fixtures. They can change the entire look of a room. And, the desire to get it right has me browsing Pinterest daily. For the den, I finally went with the simple mobile chandelier from West Elm. WEST ELM Large Mobile Chandelier, Antique Brass $279

EAT: Honey Butter Chicken (Avondale)
I went to go check out HONEY BUTTER CHICKEN over the weekend. First thoughts: everyone was super nice, lots of parking, no wait (if you’re in before noon), good cocktails and the chicken may have been a touch overhyped. It was good. I could have kept eating. But…I kept thinking “good, not great.” I got… Continue reading EAT: Honey Butter Chicken (Avondale)
EAT: Radiance Tea House & Books (New York, NY)
My business trips to New York always seem to dictate staying in Midtown. On my last trip, I discovered Radiance Tea House just a couple blocks away from the hotel. The lunch menu (PDF) includes variety of soups, salads, dumplings and combo meals (above). I appreciated the vast tea selection but had difficulty distinguishing between all… Continue reading EAT: Radiance Tea House & Books (New York, NY)
EAT: Dinky Donuts
Stumbled on Dinky Donuts at Edgefest. So yummy. Perfect size, perfect texture. Our cinammon sugar batch didn’t last long.
Where’d I go?
Wow. I took a break that lasted longer than I planned. Sitting inside while it’s 10 degrees outside, reading the Rainbow Cone post from last July reminds me just how long it’s been. Well, here’s to 2014 and hoping I can get back on the (blogging) horse.
ENTERPRISE FISH CO. / Santa Monica, CA
I’ve been to ENTERPRISE FISH CO. several times over the years. Their huge location on Main St. makes it a convenient meeting place for groups and I’ve had many a drink at their sprawling bar. Each time the name comes up amongst friends the reviews are mixed. But, last visit my friend ordered a delicious… Continue reading ENTERPRISE FISH CO. / Santa Monica, CA
Brunch at SCRATCH BAKING

POP’S TRATTORIA / Durham, NC
When I visited Durham a couple years ago I had a great lunch at RUE CLER. This year, we went to tried their sister restaurant POP’S, a frequent hangout of my Durham-based friends. Our group of three shared the Crispy Calamari and my two friends each ordered the Big Bowl of Mussels (pictured above); I went… Continue reading POP’S TRATTORIA / Durham, NC
Asheville BREWS CRUISE
A write-up on Asheville’s Brews Cruise with stops at Highland Brewing Company, French Broad Brewery and Asheville Brewing Company
CÚRATE / Asheville, NC
We had a great breakfast at Tupelo Honey Cafe so we trusted the recommendation they gave to try CÚRATE for lunch. Big fans of paella, we opted to start with the Rosejat, “similar to paella but made with thin noodles, seafood stock, shrimp.” Delicious! I could have eaten the entire plate myself. For our next… Continue reading CÚRATE / Asheville, NC
TUPELO HONEY CAFE / Asheville, NC
Our last day in Asheville started with a great brunch downtown at TUPELO HONEY CAFE. Because we were in town on a slow Wednesday morning, we were able to snag a cozy table outside. We ordered the Eggs Betty and Southern Fried Chicken Saltimbocca with Country Ham and Mushroom Marsala Sauce; both were excellent. My… Continue reading TUPELO HONEY CAFE / Asheville, NC
Brunch at PLAYA
Had brunch at Playa last week! I’ve been to Playa for small plates and cocktails and walked away thinking the food was tasty but pricey. (It’s always a bit of a bummer to spend $60/person and be starving an hour later.) Brunch prices also seem to be a few dollars than similar fare elsewhere (e.g. $15 burger) but the food, again, was tasty. If you’re willing to spend the extra cash, the Latin twist of traditional brunch items is worth trying out.
