EAT: MEZZE / Los Angeles, CA

Last week, a friend recommended we try MEZZE for dinner. The restaurant has a slew of rave reviews on Yelp and we had a Blackboard Eats discount code so the decision to head over was a no-brainer. Just as the previous diners promised, the service was fantastic. We started with some “Egyptian Rebel Fries” with with brisket, heirloom beans and Syrian cheese (pictured above).┬áDelicious! Tip: Four of us shared one order; we should have ordered two. We ordered two flatbreads– one with Merguez sausage, tomato jam and Aleppo pepper and the other with lardo, pistachio and Zatar. I thought the sausage one was tasty, a little on the sweet side for my taste. And, the lardo one was ok. To be fair, you need to get on board with eating slides of lard to really enjoy this dish.

The lamb shoulder with smoked oats and Dukkah Spices got great reviews (above) but the standout was the perfectly cooked hanger steak (below) with charred tomato, onion and sumac.

Final thoughts: Recommended. I’ll definitely be back.
