The AVON Walk for Breast Cancer is a two days journey; participants walk up to 39 miles to raise funds for breast cancer screening, support and treatment they need regardless of their ability to pay. This year, the walk spanned nine cities across the country and I helped with the event in San Francisco. Having walked in the 60-mile Avon 3Day twice and the Los Angeles Avon 2Day in 2007, it was really great to get back to crewing– supporting and cheering on the walkers.
The scenic San Francisco route started at Fort Mason and continued over the Golden Gate Bridge into Sausalito. Walkers looped around Sausalito and crossed back over the bridge before walking south towards the Excelsior district where we would spend the night at Crocker Amazon Park. Day 2 started at the park and continued north through the city with stops at Alamo Square and Justin Herman Plaza before Closing Ceremonies at Fort Mason.
Congratulations to the walkers and all the crew for raising $5.5 million dollars for breast cancer!
