Rolled to the Hollywood Bowl last night for the first show in KCRW’s World Music Festival. Each year, we wait for Bowl season to roll around and I always try and make it to at least one show in KCRW’s series. Last night, we saw Raphael Saadiq, Santigold and Femi Kuti. The opening set is always challenging at the Bowl — you have tons of people still streaming in from the long haul up the hill — but, Raphael was out there gettin’ his groove on. (What ever happened to Tony! Toni! Toné! anyway?) Femi Kuti was fantastic and closed the show, but it was Santigold that had everyone up on their feet. Have a listen to the track “L.E.S. Artistes” here.
There’s still time to get your tickets to shows this summer. The KCRW series includes artists such as Adele, Grace Jones and Ray LaMontagne.
